Airport Information

A number of Airlines fly direct to Shannon Airport from locations in UK (including Edinburgh for those travelling from ISBNPA), USA and continental Europe. Shannon airport is the closest airport to the University of Limerick (30 km).  Alternatively, you can fly to Cork or Dublin airport and travel to Limerick by train, bus or by connecting flight with Aer Lingus. Dublin airport is approximately 200 km from the University of Limerick, while Cork airport is 110 km from the University. Here are some useful links to these airports:

Car Rental:

Car Rental is possible from each of the airports. Some of the car rental providers will enable you to collect a car in one airport and return it to another, in case you wish to do some travelling while you visit. Information on car rental from each of the airports is provided below:

Travel From Shannon Airport

From Shannon Airport, you can travel by taxi directly to the University of Limerick, or take the number 343 or 51 bus to Limerick City. Tickets are available to buy online or from the Bus Éireann desk in Shannon airport. Buses to the university run from the city centre, which is a short 5/10min walk from Limerick bus/train station.

Travel From Dublin Airport

From Dublin Airport, you can take the “green bus” (Dublin Coach: N7 service) from directly outside of the arrivals area of the airport. Once you have boarded the bus, follow the following directions to make your way to the University of Limerick. 

    1. Depart Dublin Airport
    2. Arrive Red Cow LUAS
    3. Change at the Red Cow LUAS and get on the M7 express service
    4. Depart Red Cow LUAS
    5. Arrive University of Limerick

    Travel From Cork Airport

    From Cork Airport, you can take a bus (Route 266A) or taxi from outside the airport to either Parnell Place Bus Station or Kent Railway Station.

    University of Limerick via bus | Bus Eireann 

    1. Take bus number 51 from Parnell Place Bus Station (heading for Galway).
    2. Get off at Limerick bus station.
    3. Walk to William Street and take bus number 304 to the University of Limerick. Alternatively, get a taxi from Limerick bus station to the University of Limerick.

    University of Limerick via train | Irish Rail

    1. Get train from Kent Train Station towards Limerick Junction.
    2. Change trains at Limerick Junction – get train heading for Limerick train station (Colbert Station).
    3. Walk from Colbert Station to William Street and take bus number 304 to the University of Limerick. Alternatively, get a taxi from Colbert Station to the University of Limerick.
